The best improvised show I have ever been to! Faulty Towers The Dining Experience is non-stop laugh a minute mayhem and chaos. An annual fixture on the Adelaide Fringe program, the show came this year with an all-brand new cast, and a return to The Terrace Hotel as the venue of choice.
Upon arrival to the Terrace Hotel, the fun already began when Basil slammed the doors shut in from of my face. Yep, it’s going to be that kind of interactive show. We then all stood around in the waiting area where we were all subjected to physical comedy and verbal miscommunication that had us all revved up for an hour and a half of laughter.
Manuel, Basil and Sybil not only had the physical similarities, but their banter and slapstick comedy were spot on with the original Faulty Towers characters. You really felt like you were in one of the episodes. For those who love the TV series you definitely won’t be disappointed with the portrayal of each character and with plenty of Faulty Towers references perfectly intertwined with the spontaneous antics of the night.
The chemistry between the characters was fantastic and that helped make them so believable. As you would expect in this kind of interactive show the audience participation and heckling was high and how they all stayed in character for the whole duration without a flinch or fluster was sensational.
The food was excellent with the Terrace own kitchen serving up a delicious 3 course meal which was of a high standard. A big improvement on last year. If you’re lucky (or unlucky depends how you see it) to have Manuel serve up your food, then you are guaranteed to laugh yourself silly. Perhaps order the vegeterian dish.
Faulty Towers The Dining Experience has absolutely no boundaries and that’s a good thing as it brought out the most hilarious results. Tons of interaction is done with each of the guests and definetely has been stepped up from last year. Watch out if they come past your table as anything goes. Don’t think that you will sit through the show without being subjected to participating in crazy physical interactions, carefully crafted insults, awkward fumbling serving of plates and anything else that is spontaneously generated from the surroundings of the night. And take a personal phone call at your peril.
This was one of the funniest interactive shows that I have been to at the Adelaide Fringe and can’t recommend it enough if you are looking for a show that has food, drink and loads of laughter.
