DRAG IDOL SA LAUNCHES THIS FRIDAY AT MARY’S POPPIN
We’re going to crown our first Drag Idol winner, with a cash prize of $1000!
Australia has always had it’s own unique brand of Drag Culture. From the comedy stylings of
Barry Humphries Dame Edna and Chris Lilley’s Ja’mie King, to the iconic phenomenon of Priscilla Queen of the Desert, and most recently the nations newest darling Courtney Act, it’s an art form solidified in our popular culture.
Now, Australia’s leading LGBTQI events and production company, In The Dark Presents, has teamed up with Adelaide hot spot Mary’s Poppin Bar to find SA’s next Drag Idol!
South Australia is the melting pot for the arts, and our Drag Scene is revered across the nation, it is only natural that we want to provide a stage for as many Drag Artists as possible at Mary’s Poppin, but also find our next generation of Stars – enter Drag Idol – hosted by Adelaide’s very own iconic mother of Drag, Vonni!
There’s no doubt that with the worldwide phenomenal success of RuPaul’s Drag Race, all things Drag – from fashion, to beauty, to vernacular – have hit mainstream. Because of this the art of Drag has become more popular and the demand for accessibility is greater than ever before.
The format for Drag Idol is simple, each Friday night competition Heats are themed and contestants perform within. The winner of each heat goes into the semi-finals to battle it out for the winners title, $1000 cash prize AND the chance to perform on stage for one of In The Dark Presents RuPauls Drag Race Queen tour shows.
Each week contestants will be judged by audience votes and industry judging panels. If they don’t make it through the first time – they can enter again!

When: Every Friday. Doors open 8pm. Show begins 10pm. Free entry before 10pm. $10 after 10pm.
