Trainspotting 2 is Danny Boyle’s sequel to the 1996 classic of the same name.
It tells the story of Mark Renton(Ewan McGregor), a former heroin addict who has returned home to Edinburgh for the first time since stealing 16,000 pounds from his fellow addict mates.
Mark comes home to make amends but what follows when he catches up with his slippery long lost mates is not necessarily a fairy-tale reunion.
Mark visits his Dad then one of his former best mates, Spud(Ewen Bremner)who is a mess after losing his wife and son due to heroin addiction.
He then catches up with Simon(Jonny Lee Lewis) who is a lot less welcoming to Renton when he sees him for the first time in 20 years!
Robert Carlyle is brilliant again as Frank Begbie, the angry childhood mate of Mark’s who breaks out of prison and is intent on seeking revenge for the loss of money from the drug deal.
The ending is a thriller with Begbie, Spud, Simon and Mark all being alone in a pub and Begbie stopping at nothing to get revenge for Mark stealing his money.
A ‘must see’ for Trainspotting fans and you will enjoy watching what path their lives will take.
As a fan of the original Trainspotting movie I was sceptical about a sequel but I was certainly not disappointed.
