Moonlight December and January program announced!
Summer is set to sizzle as the biggest blockbusters heat up the silver screen with the announcement of Moonlight Cinema’s Dec/Jan program.
Tickets are on sale now, and with nearly 20 advanced screenings, 19 new releases and a whole lot more, Moonlight Cinema is expecting a season of smash hits and sell out nights, and that’s just the first two months!
The incredible program includes a host of films set to be nomination favorites this awards season; Passengers, Lion, La La Land and Allied, the biggest summer blockbusters; Star Wars: Rogue One, Assassins Creed and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, films for the family;Sing, Moana, Red Dog: True Blue and Trolls, as well as advanced screenings of the summer’s hottest flicks; A Monster Calls, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, Office Christmas Party and Why Him?

A star-studded VIP red carpet advance screening of the hilarious new comedy Office Christmas Party, in Sydney, Perth and Adelaide; starring a who’s who of Hollywood: Jennifer Aniston, Jason Bateman, Oliva Munn and comedy queen Kate McKinnon; will officially open the season. A week later, onDecember 15, Melbourne and Brisbane VIP’s will walk the red carpet for the advanced screening of Red Dog: True Blue.
Be the first to see this season’s award contenders before anyone else with advanced screenings of Oscar buzz films including: Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt’s interstellar love story, Passengers; Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling’s whimsical musical masterpiece La La Land; Brad Pitt’s spy thrillerAllied and the Australian film Lion which stars ‘Our Nic’ as an adoptive mother whose son finds his birth mother via Google Earth after 25 years of separation.
Moonlight also has plenty of box office smashes in store: The hotly anticipated second installment to the rejuvenated Star Wars franchise, Star Wars: Rogue One; go hunting with the new Harry Potter spin off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them; as well as the advanced screening ofAssassin’s Creed, a film adaptation of the smash hit video game starring Michael Fassbender as a career criminal who gains the knowledge and skills of his assassin ancestor.
On Australia Day, get the fur-family together for another screening of Red Dog: True Blue. A follow up to the 2011 Aussie hit, this is a prequel that follows the early events leading up to Red Dog’s discovery on the road to Dampier and his rise to Aussie legend.
Explore the thin lines between love and cruelty with Nocturnal Animals, the romantic thriller about an art gallery owner who is haunted by her ex-husband’s novel; Lose yourself as a monster humanoid tree visits a sad young boy to tell stories in the advanced screening of A Monster Calls; or pick a side in the Flemings’ family drama as overprotective but loving father Ned Fleming (Bryan Cranston) forms a bitter rivalry with his daughter’s young rich boyfriend in Why Him?
For young cinephiles, advance screenings include: the hilarious new animated musical, Sing, which follows a koala trying to save his theater by starting a singing contest; and Disney’s newest animated island fantasy, Moana. Other family films include Dreamworks’ new release Trolls and the remake of the 1977 classic Pete’s Dragon.
Although every night is pet friendly at Moonlight in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide, specifically programmed Doggie Nights return this season so you can share a love of cinema with your treasured pooch. A special screening of The Secret Life of Pets on Friday 09 December kicks off the Doggie Night’s. A star-studded affair, the screening will also include pet pampering stations, doggie treat samples and special giveaways throughout the night.
The cult classic lovers out there won’t miss out, with some time-honoured favourites taking to the big screen in late January. Bring along the one that you want and warm up those vocal cords for a special sing-a-long screening of Grease, it’ll be electrifying! And don’t forget to check that your flux capacitor is in good working nick because Marty McFly and Doc are headed Back to the Future.
As always Moonlight cinema is a BYO friendly event*, but no sweat if you forget your picnic spread and sparkling; The Moonlight food truck and fully licensed bar will be serving up scrumptious LA-style snacks to compliment the sizzling summer cinema experience.
Audiences can tuck into a scrumptious menu of movie munchies including: mac n’ cheese balls, crispy salt and pepper squid, three types of sliders and tasty Spanish churros.
There’s something for absolutely every kind of movie maniac and film fanatic at this season’s Moonlight Cinema. Gates are open an hour and a half before the film starts so grab all your mates, snap up your grassy patch and lay back for a summer of fun, food and films under the stars!
