Jay (Jordan Dulieu) is an introverted social-outcast who sticks to himself and doesn’t have any friends. When being dropped off for school but leaves his bag in the car, he is stopped seconds before plunging to certain death from a cliff! Meanwhile, 28-year-old wandering nomad Liz(Freyja Benjamin) is taking a “trip” with a group on the beach when she starts hallucinating.

As fate would have it, the pair meet at the hospital where Jay is being assessed for depression and his suicidal tendencies, and Liz is being seen for a mystery rash she has contracted on her travels. They end up meeting again the following day again at the hospital and a bond seems to be forming. It looks like Jay has finally found a person he can talk to. He reveals to his parents, who have a fairly fractured relationship themselves, that he has a friend – much to their delight.
Liz is house-sitting, but once she and Jay learn that her condition is a lot more serious than first thought, Jay says it would be better if she stayed at his parent’s house. It seems to start off well, but the parents have conflicting views, with the vodka-addicted mother (Gigi Edgley) considering Liz a hippy drug taker. Jay’s father (Martin Crews) seems much more relaxed about it – probably because of his own philandering habits!

Liz finally receives a prognosis that the only treatment left for her is life-threatening brain surgery! After revealing a secret to Liz, which sees her collapsing and being taken to hospital by ambulance, Jay ends up being confined to a psychiatric hospital and the relationship collapses.
It is quite a moving story covering a multitude of topics which are all-too-common in modern society – depression, isolation, marital dysfunction, love, relationships and loss. Definitely worth a visit to the cinemas!
