Angry Birds 2 Event Cinemas Marion
Main bird Red (Jason Sudeikis) has now become a hero to all the birds after his heroic actions saving Bird Island from the threat of the Pigs from the first Angry Birds movie. The feud between Bird Island and Pig Island is seemingly continuing until the emergence of a new threat; Eagle Island. This calls for the leader of Pig Island Leonard (Bill Hader) to call a truce to join forces to fight off the new evil threatening both islands.
After some convincing Red finally decides to get a team together to fight off eagle Zeta (Leslie Jones) who sets her sights on a much warmer climate than that of Eagle Island. He rounds up his friends Bomb (Danny McBride), Mighty Eagle (Peter Dinklage), and Chuck (Josh Gad) he also reluctantly recruits Chuck’s genius sister, Silver (Rachel Bloom), joined by pigs Leonard (Bill Hader), Courtney (Awkwafina), and Garry (Sterling K. Brown) creating a team of special forces to try and save their islands.
There’s lots of cheeky comical fun from the birds and pigs especially with the new addition of the three little angry birds also helping in the saving of the islands who are voiced by the children of Nicole Kidman and Wonder Womans’ Gal Gadot. There’s plenty of pop culture references from Dawson’s Creek, David Bowie’s ‘Space Oddity’, Harold Faltermeyer’s ‘Axel F and Purple Rain’s purifying in the waters of Lake Minnetonka.
It’s just as fast paced as the first movie but with more of a social and moral message of teamwork and inclusion. The kids in the audience were certainly laughing and cheering with enjoyment which is always a good sign of approval. While it may not be seen as up to the standards of Pixar it’s still a fun and enjoyable movie.
