What: Dumbo (2019)
Duration: 112 Minutes
Genre: Fantasy/Adventure
Most of us are familiar with the tale of Dumbo – the elephant born with obscenely oversized ears into a struggling circus, who then discovers the ability to fly with said ears. However, this one is quite different. As any other movie directed by Tim Burton, the graphics are beautifully expressive and realistic with a dark element setting the dreary mood.
You’ll be feeling all the feels as you’re taken on a rollercoaster of emotions…mainly ones that will get you right in the heart strings. The movie draws on real life issues in a soft, easy to understand way; from greed to guilt, and from relationships between humans and animals alike.
As for the plot line, I wouldn’t say it is thick, therefore suitable for a younger audience. However, there is always something valuable for adults to learn from such movies…generally regarding morals and ethics. One of Dumbo’s core focus’ encompasses animal cruelty – from separating animal families, to forcible circus stunts and unnatural lifestyles, which is quite upsetting to see, and unfortunately are extremely prevalent occurrences in the world we live in. But don’t worry, a happy ending isn’t so uncertain.
The cast has been chosen to a tee, with the likes of Colin Farrell, Danny DeVito and Eva Green. Further, there is definitely a bright future in the acting industry for the younger cast; Finley Hobbins and Nico Parker, as they flawlessly play main characters throughout the movie.
Although the film is quite slow paced, the intricate animation makes for interesting eye candy at all times. The details and fine lines were worth seeing it on the big screen.
