MBFWA 17 Dion Lee

By Tony Polese · On May 14, 2017

With love to the reigning king of tailored hems, Dion Lee opened Mercedes Benz Fashion Week 2017 with sleek style and sophisticated elegance.  Set amongst the sails of the iconic Sydney Opera House, the fluid constructs complimented the signature architectural designs of Lee’s 2018 Resort collection, conversant with the urban beauty of its surrounds.

Hosting a signature palette of primary colours, models emerged from the cascading structures and walked the monument’s perimeter in sartorial pieces. Key themes within Lee’s capsule collection included deconstructed tailoring, high-tech fabrics, and flowing eveningwear which captured a balance between edge, refinement and grace.

Lee embodied his story into dresses with clever cut-outs and draping hems, slouchy knits, impeccable double-breasted suiting and re-worked workwear, incorporating spliced silk, layers of netting and lathers of ribbon sculpted around the body. Pieces were paired with utility staples, such as the show stopping precision-cut fedoras and fierce eyewear.

Lee did what Lee does best, and is clearly renowned for – minimalist designs with subtle detail in the hems.
