The Artistic Festival Director, Ali McGregor has put together six articts and a MC that are weird, wacky and as such, glorious misfits. This ninety minute burlesque vaudeville show is held in the Space Theatre with a cabaret seating set up at tables. While this set up is perfect for this type of show, it did make it hard for see some moments of the show from my table.
The room is at capacity and its showtime. The rapacious Miss Frisky opens up the show by introducing each of the Glorious Misfits:
Louis Biggs (naughty school boy)
Imogen Kelly (Striptease)
Davey ‘Gravey’ Sampford (juggler)
Captain Frodo (Contortionist extraordinaire)
Lily Paskas Goodfellow
Miss Frisky gets the party started on this Saturday number with an entertaining and musical number with even more musical songs throughout the crowd over the show, which breaks up nicely seeing misfits the action.
Onto the misfits, Captain Frodo does the tennis raquet routine that many of you may have seen before but it sure was a hit (pardon the punt) with the audience.
Lily raises the temperature in the room, while Davey and captain Kidd but it a memorable night for the female audience members.
Davey Sampfor’s plate routine is incredible. The musical score to complement the misfits in action was perfect too.
One misfit who is great at what she does, but I felt like her routine (flamenco) didn’t fit into the overall glorious misfits theme and that was Imogen Kelly. Her parts in the show seemed the bring the energy levels down, and audience response seemed to be a lot lower towards them too.
The misfits are in action on the stage and within the crowd. So beware, and hold your drinks close to you as you may not know which misfit is lurking.
Overall, Glorious Misfits is a fun night out with laughter, music, amazing acrobatic performances and yes, no career choice will ever look weird after seeing what these misfits do for a living.
