SANFL Crowds

SANFL statement – crowds of up to 500

SANFL has welcomed today’s announcement by the Premier, Steven Marshall, that crowds of up to 500 people will be permitted at SANFL Statewide Super League and all Community Football matches in SA from July 3, providing there is not a significant outbreak of COVID-19.

SANFL CEO Jake Parkinson said the 500 limit was subject to social distancing, with there being no more than one person per four square metres and a distance of 1.5 metres required between spectators.

“This is a great outcome for the SANFL Statewide Super League and grassroots football in South Australia and is a result of the hard work and dedication from our leagues and clubs in adhering to the Return to Training protocols over the past five weeks,” Mr Parkinson said.

SANFL is continuing to work with SA Health and SAPOL to gain further detail and advice which will enable it to finalise protocols before moving into Stage 5 of the SANFL Return to Play Roadmap (refer below).

“SANFL will continue to be committed to ensuring leagues and clubs are prepared and educated to deliver COVID-safe environments and a return to competition with spectators in a safe and healthy manner.”

The SANFL Statewide Super League commences on June 27, with the first two rounds to be played at Adelaide Oval.

Mr Parkinson said SANFL was also hopeful of increasing spectator numbers in rounds one and two at Adelaide Oval pending the success of 2000 fans attending this weekend’s AFL Showdown.

Today’s announcement of further easing of social restrictions comes ahead of tonight’s meeting with all Affiliated League representatives regarding the commencement of their 2020 season.

“We wish to thank all Leagues, clubs and communities for their continued work, support and understanding in leading grassroots football through this unprecedented and challenging period.”
