Santos Tour Down Under race organisers have made the decision to implement changes to the Novatech Stage 2 race route on Wednesday 16 January 2019. With temperatures forecast above 40 degrees, conditions will be extremely challenging for the peloton and the fans roadside.
Race Director, Mike Turtur has confirmed the distance of the Novatech Stage 2 Norwood to Angaston has been reduced by 26.9 km due to extreme heat.
“The safety and welfare of the riders, spectators and everyone involved with the race is always our primary concern,” said Race Director, Mike Turtur.
“We consulted with rider representative Adam Hansen (Lotto Soudal), Team Director representative Matthew White (Mitchelton-Scott) and with our Chief Commissaire, and all parties have agreed it would be sensible to shorten the stage.”
Novatech Stage 2 will now be 122.1km, with the riders expected to finish in Angaston at 2.22pm. At this stage there will be no further modifications to race routes, including to Ziptrak Stage 1 (based on the shorter 132km distance).
