2017/18 A – League Round 4 Match Report – Adelaide United vs Melbourne City

By Tony Polese · On October 31, 2017

City brings the heat to Coopers Stadium!
Just under 12000 saw Adelaide go down to league leaders Melbourne City at Coopers stadium first home game of the season in Round 4 of the Hyundai A League. With theReds conceding a penalty inside the 11th , I call it soft but the referee thought Reds Keeper Izzo, deliberately took down Stefan Mauk giving City a penalty and handy lead and all but 4 minutes later, the match was sealed as McCormack slotted home a great free kick from 20m out, which Izzo had no chance off stopping.
Trailing two nil at half time Marco Kurz must have fired up his players as only a German can, because an attacking United entered the 2nd half as Garuccio, Melusnic and co awoke and the reds would play the final 30mins in 6th gear, but goals would still elude them. When Malik was sent off in the 61st City had to barrel down and water everything the Reds through at them, while at times they had opportunities to score themselves with sneaky counter attacks.
When it’s not your night it’s not your night and the Reds just couldn’t score against the early league leaders. It’s a shame that Kurz didn’t make any changes earlier than the 79th minute, but I guess he is still working with this squad, which has potential.
Hats off to young Timmy Cahill, the crowd favorite on field 15mins after the siren still signing autographs.
Player of the Match: Eugene Galekovic solid as a rock in goals tonight and great to see him at Coopers again!
