Fringe Review: An Evening of Standup Comedy with Anthony Tomic & Chris Marlton

By Tony Polese · On February 17, 2020

What happens when two Canberrean public servants walk into an Adelaide Bar? Welcome to an evening with Anthony Tomic and Chris Marlton.  Well only Anthony confirmed he was a “fat cat” and offered a few insights into his daily grind supported by a heckle friendly crowd.  Then it’s onto his relatable Croatian parents still treating Anthony as their 34 year old man child.  The best was left til last with his hilarious unpacking of the male pelvic floor.

This split bill was shared with Chris Marlton following sold out shows at the Canberra Comedy Festival and Melbourne International Comedy Festivals in 2019.  Chris’ style is completely different and out of this world as he introduces his alter ego’s an old Yankee man and a blinged out poet from the ghettos of South London.  Chris has an amazing talent with bringing these characters to life and impeccable accents to match.  However it was hard to relate to these characters and it felt esoteric at times.  What did work was the repartee with the audience which elevated some of the flat spots and kept them engaged.  Being the preview night there were some technical issues which would have affected the performance but should be ironed out by now.

Showing at Griffins Hotel, 7pm every night from the 14th – 22nd of February (not Monday 17th). I give it 4 cups and a piccolo [caffeine related skit you have to come to the show to find out]
