The Quizzical Mr Jeff makes his debut at this years’ Adelaide Fringe with his self-titled show, a fusion of magic and circus fun for all ages. Mr Jeff is certainly no amateur, having performed throughout Europe, North America and Australia since 2011.
I decided to make this a family affair, taking along our three children since the Fringe guide stated this was a show for all ages. For us, the show began the moment we walked into Gluttony as we headed to the Parasol Lounge with Mr Jeff himself approaching us and asking the children if they would like to see some magic. He took out his crystal balls and treated us to a quick taste of what the audience would see in his show, without knowing we were actually on our way to see his show. The children and I were immediately intrigued.
The Quizzical Mr Jeff invites you to unleash your imagination with his playful display of optical illusions, complimented with fun choreography in this visual storytelling treat. There are crystal balls and hoops, lots of them, so beautifully manipulated to appear as if they are floating before your eyes. The clever and mischievous use of the 6 foot balloon (I want one) provided many laughs, particularly amongst the children who were in absolute awe of the size of the balloon and what Mr Jeff was able to do with it.
This one man show invites audience participation, and a lucky few are selected to get on stage and assist Mr Jeff with his hilarious acts. A special treat is the ensemble of audience members he gathers on stage to conduct in a musical masterpiece.
The Quizzical Mr Jeff will dazzle you with his enchanting and amusing show. There were many ‘laugh out loud’ moments in this super fun show that is definitely great for the whole family.
Go see it; you will be so glad you did.
