This one woman musical comedy starring Claire Dawson just fails to hit those high notes. There were a few good laughs mixed in with some upbeat tunes which had us clapping along for the ride but the performance was uneven at times. Director Rod Anderson used film as a backdrop during the performance with good visual effect otherwise the show would have been quite one dimensional without it.
Whilst there is no doubt that Claire is talented, the rendition of Katy Perry’s “Roar” stretched her abilities. This finale was supposed to be an ode to female empowerment however it appeared more like a desperate act of a middle aged woman. A better song choice might have helped.
The GC at the German Club is a great venue and it’s good to see them supporting theatre at the Fringe. The only drawback was that the band playing downstairs carried through to the venue upstairs which unfortunately detracted from the show.
