THE JUNGLE GIANTS REVIEW
Words: Olivia Fabris
Touring for the release of their latest album Quiet Ferocity, we caught The Jungle Giants at Fat Controller on Thursday night for a gig that was anything but quiet!
The four-piece band from Brisbane opened with one of their best known oldies She’s a Riot from 2012 and came onto the stage bringing an immense presence which created an overflowing energy of excitement that the eager crowd quickly picked up on.
From then, the set flowed between songs from the new album into some of their older work, which was a pleasure for all of their truly adored fans.
Perhaps, one of the biggest things that distinguished this gig was the fact that it was Cesira’s birthday and the crowd was sure to remember with every song break being devoted to singing her ‘Happy Birthday’.
Front man Sam Hales interacted and engaged well with the crowd ensuring in almost every song that everyone raised their hands, danced and ultimately god damn enjoyed themselves!
The band wrapped up a remarkable hour set with Used To Be In Love and Feel The Way I Do both of which are huge hits from the new album and topped off a truly energetic and thrilling performance.
The only criticism for the entire set was the distinguishable fact that the walls of Fat Controller are not best suited for a band’s sound and vocals however, this did not take away from the talent that is apparent within The Jungle Giants.
All in all, it was a ripper set and it is evident that The Jungle Giants are hands down a band that anyone could go and watch and love their set regardless of whether they had followed the band for years or not. They are easily one of my favourite bands and this gig was no exception for reminding me of this.
Kudos goes to you Jungle Giants!
