Sydney ambient/melodic post-rockers SLEEPMAKESWAVES have announced a 9-date headline tour of Australia this August, bringing their schedule for 2016 up to a massive 55 dates. The ʻtraced in constellationsʼ tour celebrates the release of the bandʼs latest single and video taken from ARIA and J Award nominated album ʻLove of Cartographyʼ and will see them play 53 shows across North America and Australia from March through September.
THE CONTORTIONIST whose latest album ʻLanguageʼ has established them as one of the worldʼs most-hyped experimental rock acts. Recalling influences as diverse as Rush, Karnivool, King Crimson and Tool, the Indiana-based six-piece have a uniquely melodic take on technically proficient music. Sleepmakeswaves have had a busy 18 months since the release of their second album ʻLove of Cartographyʼ – charting at #31 on the ARIA Chart (#2 on the 100% Independent Charts behind Sia) and nominated for an ARIA Award, J Award, AIR Award and 3 AU Review awards. In 2015, the band embarked on the 55-date, 22-country Great Northern tour, wrapping up with a climactic ʻLive at the Wirelessʼ set recorded for triple j at Sydneyʼs Metro Theatre. Late 2015 and early 2016 marked several big moments for the band – with the announcement of the amicable departure of founding member Jonathan ʻKidʼ Khor to pursue family and work interests and welcoming aboard new guitarist Daniel Oreskovic. The band also performed at Port Macquarieʼs Festival of the Sun, Tasmaniaʼs Party in the Paddock and headlined the Birdʼs Robe Records 5th birthday show in Sydney. In March, the band begun their first visit to North America in four years, playing 36 shows alongside Indiana progressive rockers THE CONTORTIONIST and UK/American heavy outfit MONUMENTS, finally returning home in May. In July, they hit the road again, for a sold out run of shows supporting the reunion of Australian alternative icons COG, before their own headline tour in August. In the meantime, writing for a third album is already underway, with plenty more news to come. With a series of unforgettable and thundering sequences ʻLove of Cartographyʼ presents the bandʼs continued desire to map new creative directions. Recorded in Byron Bay at Studio 301 with producer Nick DiDia (Karnivool, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Powderfinger, Rage Against The Machine), the albumʼs 10 tracks range from the epic bombast of ʻPerfect Detonatorʼ to the delicate and subtle electronic flourishes of ʻA Little Spark.ʼ
