French artists Nouvelle Vague came to Adelaide as part of their national tour which took them to Sydney and Melbourne for So Frenchy, So chic Festival. This was an indoor show held at Her Majesty’s Theatre and a strong audience was present to see the girls put a twist on some classic songs but with a sexy edge.
Nouvelle Vague was formed in 2003, when a version of Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart” was dropped.
After a six year break, we find the Nouvelle Vague girls back on stage to entertain us.
Nouvelle Vague is led by Melanie Pain and Elodie Fregs’s. Melanie was perfect for softer dreamier songs whule Elodie had more of a cabaret feel to her voice and presences. Founding member Libaux was on the guitar.
Liset Aleam joins the show later on as a vocalist and is very popular with the audience
All the musicians on stage were amazing and added to the magic that the vocalists delivered on this night. The drummer especially had the crowd having fun and was able to get everyone on their feet midway through the show. And this is where my only negative is geared to which has nothing to do with show quality as they can only play with what venue they have.
But with the type of music that was played, I know myself wanted to dance for majority of the songs. So this show would be more suited to an outdoor venue where dancing can happen or seating for those wishing to i.e.WOMADelaide. So would be great to have the So Frenchy, so Chic festival come to Adelaide in future years.
The show was fantastic and I highly suggest getting their new album titled “I Could Be Happy”. And I definitely left the venue happy on this midweek summer night.
