Wednesday night saw Jon Stevens role into Adelaide and what a show it was. The former Noiseworks/INXS lead singer and iconic Aussie legend is touring to support his gritty new album Starlight. That album recorded in the US with help from David Stewart (Eurythmics fame) has a lot of country soul, Memphis rock going on it. The show kicked off at about 8pm with Kate’s older brother Phil Ceberano playing a thirty minute set with his band…that kicked off with a Hendrix cover and playing some other well-known 70’s iconic rock songs, but most importantly getting the crowd engaged with comical jokes and stories of his youth and some glitzy guitar solos worthy of a rock god.
Kate Ceberano came on and continued where Phil left off, playing a small set of her most iconic hits and proving that her voice is time- less and that she is truly an Australian pop queen, now that she is in to her fifth decade as an artist and clearly using all hear experience to work the crowd to her sultry groove.
Jon Stevens hit the stage at about 9pm and opened with the gritty “Guilty” he was three songs into his set before he stopped and welcomed everyone…that’s stamina how to start a show…
This was gone be a bareback rock show…there was minimal stage wizardry, just some awesome tunes from Starlight…and later into the show the classic Noiseworks tunes and even Kick by INXS were played. Although during one of his acoustic songs there was some audio issues…as Jon said “f….it’s live music…” the nearly two hour set ended with Kate and Phil Ceberano hitting the stage to compliment the 12 piece band. Kate and Jon delivered Jesus Christ Superstar songs and it was just another charm to the magical show….
Catch Aussie rock legend Jon Stevens on the starlight tour….for close to three hours of Aussie pop/rock music, it is a great night out….the younger guys just don’t quite make music like the legends….
Also buy the new album. It has songs of love, rediscovery and battling… that we can all relate too.
