HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHERS STONE IN CONCERT REVIEW

HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHERS STONE IN CONCERT

NOVEMBER 4TH 2017

Words: Olivia Fabris

I recall back to the days of 2012, being a young girl whose day was made when she found out she was one of the few people to first be accepted into Pottermore. My childhood had become a reality and I was ever so eager to explore the world of Harry Potter even more.

Now a recent university graduate, I felt a similar feeling of excitement mixed with nostalgia when I was approved to review Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone in concert at the Entertainment Centre.

This event was far more than a large screening of the movie; it also saw the highly reputable and versatile Adelaide Symphony Orchestra (ASO) play the soundtrack of the film, recreating the intensely memorable and now famous work of John Williams and showed families, partners and friends dressed in costume where a huge crowd of Harry Potter fans banned together for a truly magical experience.

Walking into the Entertainment Centre the overflowing crowd was swarming to get to their seats for the beginning of the movie. Prior to starting the crowd was encouraged to boo and applaud their most beloved and rivalled characters and then in an instance, the ASO had their wands at the ready and the night commenced.

Watching a movie, with so many people that you all love, with the soars of happiness when Hagrid came on the screen or the screaming displeasure when Draco Malfoy was present really was something else and all the while was emphasised and all the more intense from that distinct score by John Williams performed by the ASO proving that it really was worthwhile of a Grammy nomination.

Each note was performed to perfection and exceeded all expectations. The addition of the ASO to the movie created for a truly unique experience that enchanted all and left fans with a sense of fulfillment. I can honestly say that the entire experience was one of a kind and something I would recommend to any adored Harry Potter lover no matter the age.

The ASO will also perform Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets™ in Concert Saturday 28 April and if it’s anything to go by from the first instalment we can’t wait to see you there!
