Fringe Review: Frankenstein: How to Make a Monster

By Tony Polese · On February 18, 2020

Making their Australian debut after a successful Edinburgh Festival, the BAC Beatbox Academy will enthrall you with their rendition of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.

However they first treat the audience to a lesson in beatboxing 101 which is a great introduction for the uninitiated. Any misconceptions of what beatboxing entails will be blown away as these six performers combine their vocal talents with theatre to keep you mesmerised throughout.  The Frankenstein story also serves as a backdrop in which they weave contemporary themes of social media, alienation, bullying and obsession with image.   Lastly the audience are treated to a traditional beatbox challenge as two performers square off and the audience vote with applause and cheers.  There is something for everyone in this show.

You will never look at beatboxing the same way, definitely a performance not to be missed which has no boundaries with age, gender or status.

Showing at the The Attic at RCC
