Classic Returns with F1 Stars in 2016
The Iconic South Australian Tarmac Rally returns this November 17-20 with some big name imports.
With the event being bundled into the greater Adelaide Motorsport Festival held in the Adelaide Parklands over the weekend of the 19th and 20th November the Shannons Classic Adelaide Rally benefits with attendance from some of the Formula One Drivers headed to town take part over the weekend.
On Friday 18th November , spectators can expect to see Swedish F1 great Stefan Johansson from the 1980’s Golden Era of F1 along with Ivan Capelli and Pier Luigi Martini , all in just released exotics as part of the Marque Tour Section of the Rally.
The Tour section is proving incredibly popular at Classic Adelaide this year with over 70 entries received to date in this non-competitive section that takes in all 21 closed road stages and finishes with two twilight stages on a section of the Clipsal 500 track.
Competition entries are starting to hot up with Multi-Time Classic Adelaide winner Kevin Weeks a confirmed entrant in the same Porsche 911 that propelled him to victory over several years in the mid 2000’s.
Nick Streckeisen, a Podium finisher in Classic Adelaide’s of old will pair with Mike Dale ( winner in 1998) to take on several local favourites including Matt Selley (BMW Hartge), Michael Busby (S4 RX7), Roger Lomman (240Z) and Andrew Booker (DR30 Skyline) as well as interstate entries who are also eligible for a special Tourist Trophy at this year’s event valued at $3495.
The event is pitched as having some of the tightest roads in the country and delivers a festival feel not found at any other event, mainly due to the integration with the Adelaide Motorsport Festival that sees the coming together of the events attract over 540 individual competitors and over 20,000 spectators.
Entries are still open, route maps and closed road stage locations are available at www.classicadelaide.com.au.
