Saturday 6th January 2018 – Day One
For a first timer to Perth, I was very eager to check out the city and of course Falls Festival downtown in Fremantle whilst over for the weekend. As we boarded the train for Day one, the excitement was already building as we knew what was waiting at the end of the line. With acts such as The Jungle Giants, Angus & Julia Stone and The Smith Street Band to just name a few, we were in for a big day ahead.
On arrival, we enjoyed breakfast at a local café called Two Rubens Espresso and then went and secured our passes and headed in for the first act. I remember taking a quick photo of the main stage areas thinking wow! This has been well setup for an event in its second year running. There were two main stages side by side on the oval area and within a short walk was a third, known as the valley stage.
Once we got our bearings of knowing where media room was located, facilities and of course the VIP bar, the day was ours. My photographer went off to do his thing and I was free to roam around to check out the sights and sounds. Soon enough I was swamped by large crowds enjoying the bands putting on their shows, giving it their all, it certainly felt and looked like a sold out event!
A great bonus of this event was the flexibility for pass outs as not many music festivals allow it. So if you needed to take a break you could go out and check out the many things that Fremantle has to offer.
With perfect weather during the day and as the sunset in, a cold breeze starting coming in. We were told it was known as the “Fremantle Docker” so if you come next year, bring a jumper for the night time, just in case, but it certainly didn’t affect the atmosphere.
By the end of day one and what a long day it was, starting at 9am and getting back at the hotel around 11pm, we were certainly ready to recharge for the next day. My highlights of the day were seeing everyone sing horses by Darryl Braithwaite and experiencing music I was not a custom too and loving it.
Sunday 7th January 2018 – Day Two
Oh my mind was telling me get up but my legs and feet were saying no. Soon enough we were back on the train and pumped for day two. Once inside, the atmosphere was more relaxed and chilled, only the strong would be back for another day. Again we were blessed with perfect weather.
The day and night carried out similar to day before, but getting the cream of the crop with Triple J artists like Everything Everything, The Kooks and Run The Jewels amongst others, it was pretty surreal to be part of a music event that just doesn’t stop giving. If anyone was thinking about going or coming back for another time, don’t think, just do!
