One man, 2 guitars, 2 monitors and a room full of Ed Kuepper devotees. Ed performs his classic Solo and By Request show for the first time in Adelaide since 2014 at The Gov.
By request, we mean actually taking requests from the audience in the room who were more than familiar with his body of work (not from a web site, and then practicing the songs). With over 24 studio albums to his name this is no mean feat, as the audience sang out or handed him pieces of paper with the names of many obscure album tracks, as well as the more popular songs.
Of course Ed also told stories of his songs and even threw in the odd cover version and new song. He was asked to play “the flute song” and agreed to do it if the audience did the part of the flute. The song naturally was Real Wild Life.
When requested to play Sleepy Head he asked the audience to provide the chorus to the song which they did with gusto.
Ed closed the evening with The Way I Make You Feel and commented he had tackled every request for the evening except Ticket to Ride, because “that was by that other band, The Beatles”. He even had people dancing in front of the stage by the end of the show. Amazing!
Two and a half hours on stage, everyone left contented, although one had the feeling the audience would have stayed and listened all night if he had kept playing.
Ed Kuepper, ex Saint and still a saint to his devoted fans.
