Dia De Los Muertos Review

By Tony Polese · On November 5, 2016

Words by Belinda Martin
What an event that was! Saturday the 29th of October Eventalaide was invited to experience Adelaide’s inaugural Dia De Los Muertos festival hosted by Entertainment Adelaide and Follow the Wolf.

Upon entering what looks like a run down carpark from the outside, we were transported to a vibrant and energetic take on the traditional Mexican Day of The Dead celebration. My first thoughts were of absolute amazement at how many people had gone to the effort in not only getting their faces painted but also dressing for the occasion. For those that hadn’t come prepared, free face painting by the talented Lorna from Lenniedin Adelaide Body Paint Artist & her team of face painters was on offer.

With my complimentary margarita made with Patron Tequila i set of to experience all that was on offer.

From this moment my senses were in overdrive. The extent of artwork, colourful bunting and traditional decorations supplied by The Mexican Shop on Unley was just mind blowing and the 1000+ tacos produced by La Cantina Co. were delightful.

The effort gone into the entertainment again kept the crowd engaged with traditional music by The Three Amigos Roving Mariachi band, Dance Brazil Entertainment with an incredible Samba display and a beautifully themed fashion parade featuring Alter Ego The Label and Dark Thorn Clothing.

Having spent a lot of time in Latin and South America myself, I was very impressed to hear the DJs earlier in the night playing familiar tracks from the clubs I visited on my travels. Accompanied by the very talented Alex on percussion, this transformed into more main stream music as the night went on keeping the venue full and the crowd dancing the night away.

When the venue started to empty and the lights came on I was surprised to see it was already pushing 1am. As I left my Mexican fantasy and walked out into the street my only disappointment was that the night was over.

With yet another stand out event under their belts I’m excited to see what Entertainment Adelaide and Follow The Wolf have in store for us next.

Until then Muchas Gracias y Buenas Noches
