DAVID BOWIE ANNOUNCES LIMITED EDITION 40th ANNIVERSARY 7″ PICTURE DISC OF BE MY WIFE
AND VINYL EXHIBITION EXCLUSIVE OF I’M AFRAID OF AMERICANS
OUT JUNE 16
June 16 sees the release of the latest in the series of special limited David Bowie 7″ picture discs, the 40th-anniversary edition of Be My Wife on Parlophone, available to pre-order now. Originally released in the UK in June 1977, Be My Wife was the 2nd and last single to be taken from the groundbreaking album Low, the first of the so-called ‘Berlin Trilogy’ of albums. The video for the track, which was Bowie’s first since 1973’s Life On Mars?, was directed by Stanley Dorfman the original producer & director of the BBC’s Top of The Pops. The AA of the 7” picture disc is a previously unreleased live version of the instrumental Low track Art Decade, recorded in Perth, Australia in 1978 during the Isolar II tour.
To celebrate the latest stop of the record-breaking David Bowie Is exhibition in Barcelona, a speciallimited edition red vinyl of I’m Afraid Of Americans will be making its 7” debut. The Trent Reznorremixed ‘V1′ version of the track is a double A-side with an acoustic version of Heroes live at The Bridge School benefit which was only briefly available on the Bridge School compilation vinyl.
The artwork for the red vinyl 7″ will feature two photographs of David against a wall by renowned Mexican photographer Fernando Aceves, who shot David on his visit to Mexico City during the Earthling tour in October 1997. 20 years on from their first release both tracks and the sleeve imagery have a renewed resonance and currency in 2017. This single will be exclusively available at the Barcelona leg of the David Bowie Is exhibition at Museu Del Disseny De Barcelona.
