What: Thrones! The Musical Parody
Where: Gluttony – The Flamingo
Duration: 75 minutes
Genre: Comedy / Musical Theatre
(Reviewed by John Glennie)
If you are a Game of Thrones fanatic/tragic (like me!) then this show is definitely for you. The first 5 minutes were scene-setting, trying to convince a non-GoT-fan that she should watch it.
Once they settled into it, the send-ups of many notable scenes from all seasons were absolutely hilarious. If you are not a Thrones follower, then you may not get nearly as much out of it and could be left wondering what the fuss was all about!
None of the main characters were spared in this parody – and even some ring-in’s, such as Ed Sheeran who made an appearance in one episode for about 10 minutes! All the swearing and sexual innuendos gave “authenticity” to the scenes.
They even included author George R.R. Martin in the parody, whose book series were the foundation for the first few seasons. However the last 2 or 3 seasons are the brainchild of the producers and not represented in books (at this stage).
The last 10-15 minutes was devoted to their “forecast” ending of the series, with the final season of the show due to start in April. Time will tell if their predictions are correct – though I don’t think that one scenario where George Martin murders all the main characters out of spite (for steering away from his books) is plausible.
