If there is one show you shouldn’t miss at this year’s Fringe, this is it!
Charmaine Jones and her Gospo Collective choir return with their acclaimed show Jackson vs Jackson after a triumphant premiere in 2018. This Adelaide based ensemble of some 100 performers, celebrates the music of musical legends Michael and Janet Jackson in this tribute show.
The group have added more of the famous Jackson duo’s songs to their show with their signature gospel style. From the very start, they had the crowd wanting to get up and dance with their mash ups of everyone’s favourite Jackson songs. Charmaine, the director, leads the ensemble and is just mesmerizing with her powerhouse vocals and engagement with the audience.
The choreography is basic but effective, however the solo vocals of the ensemble are fantastic, belting out tunes such as Don’t Blame it on the Boogie, Escapade, Miss You Much, Black or White, Thriller and many more. The back-up choir added a special kind of magic to this already amazing ensemble, with a great band.
The arrangement of a favourite, Man in the Mirror, was beautifully done, evoking emotion and accolade.
This packed Thursday night show ended with a well-deserved standing ovation. You don’t have to be a Jackson fan to enjoy this amazing show, but if you are, you will not want to miss it!
