A new Chinese Restaurant has arrived in Adelaide’s CBD and it serves all your favourite Chinese dishes along with some beautiful traditional dishes to try. Opening earlier in the month and located at 53 O’Connell Street North Adelaide, Yang Chow delivers a traditional and mouth-watering Southern Chinese experience that delighted the senses.
On arrival at this charming restaurant we noticed the lovely oriental-style set up with elegant accents of green, cool decorative embellishments and comfortable chairs lining the walls. We were greeted by a polite and friendly waitress who waited on us for our entire meal, consistently offering us beautiful little details on each meal we ate.
Our lunch begun with a lovely imported Chinese green tea served in pretty china. Later, we were later served up some exquisitely fresh and vibrant lemonade variations: one strawberry-ade and a yuzu lemonade made from Chinese yuzu fruit.
Here’s what we tried:
- Pork Belly Pieces
- BBQ Pork
- E-shand Eggplant
- Boneless steamed Barramundi with Ginger
- Crispy Shandong Chicken
- Stir-fried Chinese broccoli
- And Sizzling Pork ribs with a sweet & sour sauce
The first dish served, Crispy Pork Belly is a favourite to many and Yang Chow did not disappoint. With a dreamy crisp crackling layer on top of each little piece, a crunch of heaven in the mouth, these Pork Belly Pieces were a delicious starter to our lunch.
Next served, the BBQ Pork lacked a little in flavour but was well-cooked and served in a large portion.
E-Shand Eggplant next and wow this dish was a delight. With a fantastically fresh sweet and spicy chilli-herb sauce covering well-cooked eggplants this was one of my favourites. It was beautiful to hear the waitress describing “this is a traditional meal from my home-part in South China, we use a lot of chilli.”
Next to come out was a whole boneless steamed Barramundi fish with a ginger sauce. This dish was cooked perfectly, incredibly tender with the perfect amount of flavour from the ginger sauce to accompany the delicious Barramundi. An Asian-Seafood dream.
Next was the Crispy Shandong Chicken, light fried puffs of chicken, these were a tasty treat. Topped with some chilli, herbs and fried shallots this is the perfect option for those who are a little unsure of spiced cuisine.
Next, we were treated to a plate of Stir-fried Chinese Broccoli. A perfect Vegetarian meal to have on its own or as an accompaniment to your meal.
The last dish to come out had us rather excited. Coming out still sizzling on a hot plate were pork ribs with a sweet & sour sauce. What made this dish was that wonderful sauce, so perfectly accompanying the ribs which were cooked well and kept hot on the plate.
Yang Chow’s menu includes an extensive range of Chinese food favourites such as Tom Yum Soup, BBQ Pork Buns, Dim Sims, Wontons, Spring Rolls as well as some beloved rice and noodle dishes such as Fried Rice and Pad Thai. Yang Chow’s menu is marked with many Vegetarian, Vegan and Gluten-free options and I am confident of their ability to cater for all food requests. Also included on the menu is sumptuous Peking Duck, Duck Noodle or Stir-fried duck for those looking for a more opulent experience.
Yang Chow is a sophisticated, humble restaurant in the heart of busy North Adelaide. It prides itself off of their traditional flavour-rich food, quality ingredients and meats and their traditional dishes from Southern China. Their large selection of smaller and bigger bites along with rice & noodles, make it the perfect place for any occasion. Yang Chow are even on Uber Eats for your Chinese takeaway needs for those cosy nights in. Grand Opening Dinner is set for the 18th January 2020, be sure to phone in and make a booking, this is a restaurant that I am sure will become a favourite to many.
