Eventalaide was invited to try the newest venture at the Royal Hotel at Torrensville, Mexican themed restaurant, Condesa. The walls have been painted in Mexican themed murals and chef Ashley Nygen has overhauled the menu, with his own take on Mexican classics.
The drinks menu has also had a makeover, with the beer selection including Alhambra, Bohemian, Dos Equs and Modelo Especiale. Sangrias come in red and white wine flavours as well as the refreshing passionfruit, Special mention must go though to the margaritas, the pick of the bunch in this reviewer’s opinion.
Tacos had a unusual dark colour and came in a selection of pork, chicken and cauliflower, the latter being vegan friendly. Corn on the cob was also sweet, buttery and moreish.
Roast chicken mole with carrot puree was a superb collection of flavours that left you wanting more. Char grilled chilli octopus was marinated in the right amount of vinegar to have a good bite with an easy to savour tang.
The corn tortilla wrapping the Chicken Flautus was perfectly crunchy to marry well with the smooth guacamole. The eggplant fritto, another vegetarian offering was crumbed to perfection with the eggplant tender and flavoursome.
The finale of churros was also perfectly cooked, crunchy, with a delicious sprinkle of sugar and cinnamon. Launching on World Tequila Day, this venture by Samantha Hurley, daughter of renown hoteliers Peter and Jenny Hurley, is bound to make waves on the multicultural precinct on Henley Beach Road. Well worth checking out.
