Last week Tony Polese and I drove up to Mt Barker to try the food of the newly opened Carl’s Jr fast food restaurant. Carl’s Jr, the California-based burger chain which operates in more than 42 countries, opened its first store in South Australia on 22nd July this year. The store is situated next to a BP petrol station on Dutton Road, Mt Barker.
It was a drizzly cold winter day in Mt Barker. Tony and I arrived at Carl’s Jr at 1pm and we quickly noticed that we were not the only ones that had the idea of having lunch at Carl’s Jr. The place was pretty packed, and there was a long line waiting to order their food. We were greeted by Danny Caporaso, the store manager, who invited us to have a seat and he would take our orders. We sat in the petrol station part, which we found to be a lot colder in temperature than the Carl’s Jr seating area.
After having a look at the menu, Tony and I decided that it would be worth trying one beef and one chicken burger each, as well as some sides and desserts. While we waited for our food to be served, we had a look at the store decoration. What stood out for us was the mix of modern décor with rustic touch on tables and chairs, and the cool lighting. It is also worth noting that some of the tables actually have power points and USB outlets for all your charging needs.
Danny brought our food to the table and everything looked delicious. The beef burgers we ordered, called Thickburgers, were definitely big and tasty, and are made with 100% Angus beef on a bun freshly baked at Carl’s Jr daily. Their average price was about $11-14. The chicken burgers were relatively smaller compared to the Thickburgers, but the chicken breast in the burger was succulent. Their average price was about $8.50. Regarding sides, we shared some crosscut fries and some chili cheese fries. The latter were to die for. For dessert, Tony and I had two ice cream milk shakes: Oreo and chocolate flavours, respectively. They were both thick and yummy, and only cost $5.15 each.
Overall, it was a great experience and Tony and I were very satisfied with the quality of the food and the friendly service provided by staff at Carl’s Jr Mt Barker. We could not try any of the breakfast options since these were not available at lunchtime. But they also looked yummy on the menu!
Opening hours: Carl’s Jr is open 7 days of the week, from 6am to midnight. Breakfast is served between 6am and 10am daily.
