We were kindly invited by Grays PR to try out the winter menu at British India restaurant. British India was previously on Morphett Street in the city but is now based at 235 Anzac Highway Plympton. I win for easier car parking at this new spot.
We received various meals off their menu in two lots. The first lot included the Broken Samosa, chicken tikka and kulcha naan stuffed with cranberries,
pistachio, mint & salt.
The chicken tikka was cooked perfectly with a delicious chargrill to the chicken and not having the chicken smothered in yoghurt meant you could dip as little or as much as you want over the chicken. A nice simple dish which is perfect as a starter.
With Samosa being a staple starter at Indian restaurants, it was refreshing to have it served differently in more of a salad format. And it was totally divine. It gave this meal a fresh touch and the taste was incredible. I would definitely head back here just for this meal.
The kulcha naan stuffed with cranberries, pistachio, mint & salt was the best naan I have ever had. The taste was incredible and its not often I go for a second serve of Naan but I couldn’t resist.
Things started to get serious as the second lot of meals came out. But what amazing meals these were.
The royal chilli squid sure was royal. This dish had amazing freshness and it was nice to have an indian dish that wasn’t too heavy. The squid was nice and tender with the perfect amount of chilli in this salad. A perfect dish to have when the warmer weather comes again.
The prawn biriyani was a little too spicy for my taste buds but for someone wanting a dish with a big kick of spice, this is the dish for you.
As a lover of fish and coconut, a dish I will be coming in for on my next visit here is the Coconut Barramundi. Sounds like a perfect dish to me.
The British Butter chicken had perfect amount of spice to it and was nice and creamy with a delicious flavour.
The service received was friendly and professional. And the food has to be the best Indian food I have ever had.
British India is a fantastic way to spend a winter’s night and this menu has been put together perfectly according to this season.
