As If To Nothing – Think big, bold, and imaginative

2016 Oz Asia Festival

AS IF TO NOTHING

CITY CONTEMPORARY DANCE COMPANY

Willy Taso

Founder/Artisitc Director

Sang Jijia

Choreography and set design

As I made my way into the Dunstan Playhouse to experience my first show for the 2016 Oz Asia Festival, It was great to see the Playhouse decked out in a Chinese theme with special touches to give the venue a real Asian feel.

The contemporary dance production by Hong Kong’s City Contemporary dance company is made up of 14 dancers and made its Australian premiere this very night.  What we experience throughout this show was artists bending their bodies in ways you would never think possible, amazing video production, and live electronic music which was captivating.

Real time dance movies are filmed live and played back on a white wall.  The large stage lets the dancers move about quickly and frenetically ensuring you don’t know where to look next.

Not wanting to give out specific details of the show, this is the show that you will definetely love if you are after an amazing contemporary Chinese dance production.  If you are after colour, this is not the show for you with grey the theme, with a touch of pink at times.

Overall, think big, bold and imaginative in this production which was choreographed by one of  China’s world’s brightest dance stars, Sang Jijia.

Be prepared to be mesmerised throughout.

As if to Nothing runs until September 24 at Dunstan Playhouse.  Get your tickets at www.ozasiafestival.com.au
