The Naked Magicians – Fringe Show
The Octagon, Gluttony
February 17th 2016
Exactly as the name suggests, the Naked Magicians are a couple of talented performers quite literally baring all for the sake of their art. The performers in question, Christopher Wayne and Mike Tyler, have returned to Adelaide for their third season at the Fringe Festival and the show is proving to be eye-opening to say the least. However, while there is plenty of skin on display, this isn’t a jumping-the-gun kind of strip show. Like any saucy rendezvous, there’s some cheeky foreplay involved before we reach the …erm climax (?!!). Fully clothed for the first half of the show, the magicians work the crowd and entertain with some genuinely baffling magic tricks that have you biting your lips and crossing your fingers they won’t stuff up. Which, of course, they don’t.
Be prepared for an overdose of innuendo, a healthy measure of audience participation and amusing (though thoroughly cheesy) banter between Wayne and Tyler.
Without giving too much away, there’s a giant inflatable penis, card tricks, rainbow straightjackets and thrusting aplenty in this hour of clever magic and raunchy humour. And although saturated with unabashed naughty fun, it is with artful deliberation that neither the tricks nor the jokes ever cross the line into awkward crassness.
While laughter, mischief and magic are a recipe for an entertaining night out, perhaps leave the under 18’s at home for this one. It should go without saying but obviously, if you’re going to come along to a show called “The Naked Magicians”, you should have a bit of idea of what you’re getting yourself into…
The Naked Magicians are down at The Octagon at Gluttony but be quick – shows only run until February 21. Tickets are available from www.adelaidefringe.com.au/fringetix
Impressive talent and unabashed naughty fun that will have you in stitches.
