Starring Maggie Smith, Kathy Bates, Laura Linney and Agnes O’Casey The Miracle Club is the heartwarming story of three ladies who challenge daily family life to make the trip to Lourdes in search of their own miracles. Lourdes is a major Catholic pilgrimage site where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared and where people bathe or drink from a flowing spring. The family back at home learn to make do while the matriarchs are away, and old tensions and tales from their small town outside of Dublin resurface as the daughter whose mother recently passed returns. Each of the three traveling together represent different generations and their experience of the trials and tribulations of life.
Although the film covers some tough topics it does so in a tasteful and heartwarming way that provokes empathy and curiosity as the story unfolds.
The characters are beautifully played and the costumes are iconically 60s and provide a joyful partner to the homeliness and family centric themes of the film. The Miracle Club also carefully comments on faith and different experiences of belief and hope.
If you are seeking a humbly uplifting experience, The Miracle Club is a must-watch that reminds viewers of the important things in life.
