Roadkill Film Review

By Tony Polese · On April 20, 2023

Roadkill is a new film produced by Soul Stone Pictures which is primarily shot in Renmark.

Roadkill revolves around four main characters being a thief, a killer and two detectives. Although not a main character, the thieve’s girlfriend ends up being pivotal to the entire storyline as she also has a link to one of the detectives.

The film commences in an explosive way as we see the thief in action on his daily pursuit to earn a living by robbing drivers on the highway in order to earn enough money for him and his girlfriend to escape town and live a better life. While on this daily hunt for prey to rob, his girlfriend thinks he is earning a living in the mines. While the robbery is occurring each day, a more sinister development is happening in this town where a killer is on the run after various young females have been brutally killed. The primary focus for the detectives is this killer especially when some of the robberies amount to very small amounts.

When the thief pulls over the killer, his life is forever changed. But who is truly the hunter and who is the hunted in this cat and mouse game, as the role of hunter and hunted between the thief and killer changes over the duration of the film and certainly keeps you on your toes in this fantastic dark thriller.

As the film continues on, we also learn why the thief has become one giving the storyline more substance. One confusing aspect for me was one of the choices that the killer chooses as it’s not consistent with his previous killings.

The ending within vineyards will have you curious as to how this all plays out in the end and might even have you cheering for the anti-hero.

An excellent music score within beautiful scenery, this is one film to put on your dark thriller hit list.

Roadkill is now screening at Event Cinemas Marion and all the Wallis cinemas within Adelaide, and at Mildura.
