Peppa Pig – Festival of Fun Review

Peppa Pig – Festival of Fun

In cinemas 2 May 2019.

Reviewed by Poppy Maio – 28 April 2019

A family favourite Peppa Pig, and friends, celebrate 15 years with 10 new episodes on the big screen in an interactive experience for the whole family. Peppa and her family, Daddy Pig, Mummy Pig and her little brother George all feature in these fun new episodes together with all of the familiar characters and some new friends including the super intelligent Edmund Elephant.

Peppa and family take us on their journey of new experiences in this ‘festival of fun’ which includes some catchy new songs the whole family can sing along too. The family goes to a petting zoo and learns about the importance of hand washing and how to care for pets. The children spend time with Grandpa Pig bird spotting, and they attend a movie screening of the Super Potato movie at the local cinema.

Other adventures include strawberry picking at the strawberry farm, visiting a television station and seeing how television shows are made and transmitted, making a family favourite, pizza and learning about the Romans. The family celebrates Grandpa Pig’s birthday at a fancy restaurant and attend a Children’s Festival which turns into a ‘muddy festival after a big downpour of rain overnight. The children love jumping in muddy puddles.

As with most Peppa Pig episodes, there are some subtle references to adult humour, including the parents needing to make excuses why the children shouldn’t get a pet after visiting the petting farm. A conversation many parents have had with their own children.

The sing-along songs, although catchy, might have been better if the words were flashed across the screen to help with the sing along segments during the show. The inclusion of real children and their interactive dialogue with the audience provided an opportunity for the children in the audience to engage enthusiastically.

It’s a fun first-time cinema experience for young ones and the perfect way to introduce them to the cinematic experience. Overall this was a fun hour of entertainment with everyone’s favourite family and friends and a must see for all Peppa Pig fans.
