Directed by Morten Tyldum and written by Jon Spaihts, Passengers is a romantic sci-fi movie that tells a story of 5000 people going into hibernation for 120 years to travel across space to colonise a brand new planet called Homestead II from earth.
But there’s a catch, of course. Not everything goes according to plan and it isn’t always Jim Preston (Chris Pratt) and Aurora Lane (Jennifer Lawrence) who wake up early together. What happens in the first quarter of the movie is morally unforgivable and at times feels very depressing. This movie will make you think whether one of the decisions is made in a very selfish manner or if it is a result of isolation.
Later on in the movie, Jim and Aurora figure out what’s wrong with the ship with Gus Mancuso’s (Laurence Fishburne) help. As predicted, together they save the ship from exploding therefore saving the other 4998 passengers plus crew members. One of them has to sacrifice and yes it is Jim.
With only four casts (Chris Pratt, Jennifer Lawrence, Laurence Fishburne, and Michael Sheen), Passengers is very engaging. It keeps me curious what the characters are going to do next even though I could predict the ending.
Chris Pratt’s and Jennifer Lawrence’s acting are amazing as usual. With average screenplay, they (once again) did a more than amazing job in conveying the characters’ feeling to me, the audience. The characters are so lively. With dry humour personality, Chris Pratt delivers those occasional laughs while Jennifer Lawrence makes you tense and edgy in the cinema. These make Passengers a great movie to watch for when you’re looking for something intense and funny at the same time.
Lastly, if you are a Sci-Fi fan and admire Chris Pratt’s and Jennifer Lawrence’s acting skills and capabilities like me, grab your ticket now to see Passengers at your near cinema.
