The Adelaide Film Festival (AFF) has announced additional guests confirmed to attend the Festival, including Cate Blanchett, who will be the special guest at a special event screening of TÁR, the film for which she received the Award for Best Actress at the recent Venice Film Festival.

The AFF Closing Night Gala will be attended by several actors from TALK TO ME – Alexandra Jensen, Otis Dhanji, Joe Bird, Marcus Johnson and Sonny Johnson – as well as directors Danny and Michael Philippou (aka RackaRacka).

Also confirmed to attend AFF are Rarriwuy Hick, the narrator of the film LUKU NGARRA, an Indigenous-funded documentary about the history and culture of Arnhem Land which is in the running for the AFF Change Award.  Rarriwuy is known for her roles in Cleverman, Wentworth, Redfern Now and True Colours.  The producer and presenter of LUKU NGARRA, Rev Dr Djinnyini Gondarra OAM, will attend the screening as well as the Djuku Mala dance company’s Baykali Ganambarr and Wakara Gondarra, who appear in the film.

AFF opens next Wednesday October 19 with the World Premiere of THE ANGELS: KICKIN’ DOWN THE DOOR to be attended by members of The Angels, John Brewster, Rick Brewster and Dave Gleeson, who will then perform at the Opening Night After Party.

The Angels and the film’s director Madeleine Parry (Nanette) will arrive on the red carpet at Palace Nova Eastend Cinema at 5.30pm on Wednesday October 19.

Oscar-winner© Ms Blanchett, who stars in and executive produced TÁR, will walk the red carpet and participate in a Q&A following the screening of TÁR, hosted by Adelaide Film Festival CEO & Creative Director, Mat Kesting, at a special presentation on Friday October 21 at Adelaide’s heritage Capri Theatre in Adelaide’s Goodwood.

The film commences at 6pm.  Red carpet commences at 5.45pm.

“AFF is honoured to host this special event screening of TÁR and to welcome Ms Blanchett as our guest.  Her incredible body of work marks her as one of the greatest actors of her generation and she is much loved by Adelaide Film Festival audiences.  We can’t wait to show them her remarkable performance in TAR,” said Mat Kesting.

“I am also hugely excited that so many of the cast of TALK TO ME will be at our Closing Night Gala event for the much-anticipated World Premiere of the feature debut from Mark and Danny Phillipou who have millions of fans around the world from their YouTube channel.  And a warm Adelaide welcome to all of our guests who will be joining us this year.”

TÁR marks the welcome return of acclaimed director Todd Field, who also wrote and produced the film, and whose last project was the Oscar nominated 2006 Little Children.

Both TÁR and THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN, which stars Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell, come direct from the Venice Film Festival. These films, along with MY POLICEMAN, starring Harry Styles and Emma Corin, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festivals, will be playing in special presentations at the Capri Theatre from Thursday October 20 – Saturday October 22.

The Capri, one of Adelaide’s most treasured and iconic theatres, is a new venue partner with the Festival.
