A STREET CAT NAMED BOB
Director Roger Spottiswoode
Starring Luke Treadaway, Joanne Froggatt and Bob
Rating PG
Running time 103 minutes
There have been many movies involving dogs (red dog true blue the latest), so was refreshing to see a movie involving a cat hit the big screen. Or perhaps I am biased as a cat fan.
The movie which is based on a true story, is shot primarily in the alleyways of London but with scenes in more familiar sights of London.
Bob who is a ginger cat has a fantastic connection and chemisty with his co star, played by Luke Treadaway (playing James). Another actor that is involved in the film quite a bit is Ruta Getmintas who plays Betty.
We see James move into a housing commission area where we see him meet Bob and Betty who lives nearby. Betty is there for them both and the movie kinda pushes a love relationship between James and Betty but doesn’t go all the way with it as they want the movie to portray the show relationship that exists between James and Bob. Plus his social worker advises him not to enter any serious relationships as he is coming off a drug addiction and needs to get himself right.
We start to see James care and nurture Bob but in return, Bob helps James luck in life too where his busking suddenly starts to take off.
We also learn of tough relationship that James has with his dad and the movie deals with the reconciliation too.
With only a few dramas on the journey together for Bob and James, this is a nice movie for a relaxing summer day. We do warn you that you may need tissues nearby.
We give it 9 paws out of ten.
