Fringe 2020: Dystopia

By Tony Polese · On November 11, 2019

Dystopia is a guitar shred fest and circus performance frenzy. Dystopia combines guitar dominant, live original music with circus performances to portray a fantastical, post apocalyptic, Dystopian narrative. Metal-Circus-Opera, Fire-Aerials-Flow.

Following Scott and Chantelle Reed’s successful 2019 Adelaide Fringe season performing their award winning show “The Otherworld” Dystopia brings forth the next chapter for this unique brand of performing artistry.

Scott Reed is an Adelaide based guitar virtuoso and progressive musical composer and producer. Scott’s blistering, highly technical yet soulful style of guitar playing compliments a diverse musical accompaniment, ranging from symphonic and ambient to Earth shakingly heavy.

Chantelle Reed is an Adelaide based Circus trainer and performer specialising in Lyra and Aerial disciplines. Chantelle directs the Circus elements of CircAxe which boasts multiple award winning performers across a variety of aerial, floor, flow and fire disciplines, as well as the up and coming talented youth from the CircoBats Performance Troupe.

Dystopia premiered in the 2019 Adelaide Guitar Festival under the stewardship of Scott’s musical project “Scott Reed’s String Theory”. Scott and Chantelle collaborated to masterfully fuse their music and circus expertise into a dynamic piece of theatre.

Dystopia’s premiere show went on sell out and prompted the officialisation of this unique brand of entertainment in the form of new performance enterprise “CircAxe”.

Dystopia tells the story of a fading Earth deriving from humanity’s unrelenting quest to profiteer. The Earth’s resources have been bled dry and humanity has failed to heed the warnings of the end time. This results in a Dark Overlord coming forth from the Otherworld to save the Earth by eliciting the “Purifire”; burning the world to the ground to allow for its regeneration. From the ashes, supernatural beings and halflings, led by the King and newly crowned Queen of Darkness rise to inhabit the Caliginous Empire. Their Utopia, your Dystopia.

Dystopia can be seen as a part of the 2020 Adelaide Fringe Festival at Star Theatres, 145 Sir Donald Bradman Drive, Hilton, on the 7th and 8th of March at 2:30pm and 7:30pm. Tickets range in price from $20-30 with group discounts available. For further information visit Fringetix.com. Whilst Dystopia is dark themed it is suitable for all ages.
