MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK AUSTRALIA ANNOUNCES
RESORT ‘20 COLLECTIONS

SYDNEY, 29 November 2018 – IMG today announced the event dates for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) Resort 2020 Collections, to be held at Carriageworks, Sydney, from 12–17 May 2019.

 

MBFWA will showcase collections from the region’s most prominent fashion designers alongside a curated program of emerging talent. Now in its 24th year, IMG has again engaged the support of the New South Wales (NSW) Government for MBFWA 2019, further solidifying Sydney as a global fashion capital.

 

NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall said, “Our support for MBFWA showcases Sydney’s iconic locations to the world and ensures Aussie designers continue to have access to a global audience of buyers, press and consumers each year. As Australia’s pinnacle fashion trade event, the week-long schedule of runway shows is an important platform for fashion labels to showcase their collections, generate sales and grow their business.”

 

 

From 2017 to 2018, MBFWA saw 35% increase in international media attendance, 5% increase in global buyer attendance, and 13% increase in designer participation – both on the runway and via The Suites, a curated onsite showroom offering designers a new forum to present their collections.

 

 

“The event’s continued growth underscores the value of its 2016 repositioning, which established Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia as the world’s first Fashion Week focused exclusively on Resort Collections,” added Natalie Xenita, Executive Director, IMG Fashion Asia-Pacific. “We’ve since seen double to triple-digit growth across designer participation, international media and buyer attendance.”

 

 

Coupled with the growth of MBFWA’s consumer extension, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Weekend Edition, to take place on 17–18 May 2019, this anticipated Fashion Week has further solidified its commercial significance in NSW and beyond.

Additionally, St.George NextGen, a program to support and mentor emerging Australian fashion designers, has today opened online applications. Participating designers will be selected by a panel of established industry experts, with winners announced in February 2019. The program will culminate with an official invitation for up to four talented designers to show as part of the NextGen runway show at MBFWA 2019, debuting their collections to a global audience of media and buyers.

 

 

Designers selected for St.George NextGen will receive mentoring, industry networking opportunities, exposure to MBFWA’s attending buyers, and invaluable marketing, publicity, digital and social media support to reach a global audience of millions. The program has helped discover and launch the careers of CAMILLA AND MARC, Kate Sylvester, Gorman, sass and bide and Akira at MBFWA since 1996.
