
IMG ANNOUNCES MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK AUSTRALIA SCHEDULE
SYDNEY (29 March 2017)—IMG today announced the preliminary schedule for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) Resort 18 Collections, taking place in Sydney, Australia, 14-19 May 2017 at Carriageworks.
Forty-four unique designers were announced at the schedule launch event, which was held at Ovolo Woolloomooloo, MBFWA’s official hotel partner.
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia will feature the Resort collections of designers including: Albus Lumen, alice mcCALL, Akira, Anna Quan, Bec & Bridge, Bianca Spender, C/MEO, Christopher Esber, Dion Lee, Double Rainbouu, Ginger & Smart, Hansen & Gretel, Justin Cassin, Karla Špetić, Katama By Garrett Neff, KITX, macgraw, Mariam Seddiq, Michael Lo Sordo, Pageant, Romance Was Born, Roopa Pemmaraju, Sass & Bide, Steven Khalil, Strateas.Carlucci, Ten Pieces, Thomas Puttick, Vale Denim, VMAJOR, We Are Kindred, Yousef Akbar, Zhivago.
Highlights for Resort 18 include:
- Australian designer Dion Lee will open this year’s Mercedes-Benz Presents showcase, commencing 14 May 2017 at 4pm
- After fourteen years, Sass & Bide will return to MBFWA to showcase Resort for the first time ever
- Bec & Bridge will celebrate its fifteenth anniversary
- Anna Quan will debut her first solo show on schedule after participating in the NEXTGEN show in 2016
- Romance Was Born will conclude the week as the closing show
Last year’s strategic repositioning of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia made it the first centralised event to be focused exclusively on Resort collections, placing it at the beginning of the global sales window. As a result, the event saw a 75% uplift in international buyer attendance, providing lucrative new opportunities for showcasing designers.
Destination NSW Chief Executive Officer Sandra Chipchase said Sydney’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia returns in 2017 with a stellar program showcasing the nation’s leading and emerging designers.
“Sydney’s credentials as an international fashion capital will once again be on display during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, with the event at the forefront of showcasing Resort collections to a global audience,” Ms Chipchase said.
“Following the success of last year’s event which saw a 75% increase in international buyers, this year‘s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia will also focus on showcasing established and emerging talent through The Suites, an initiative supported by the NSW Government through Destination NSW. The Suites will provide designers with increased opportunities onsite as well as the chance to showcase their collections alongside established brands, and is a great development for the industry.”

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia Resort 18 Collections will be showing more menswear designers this season, including Double Rainbouu, Strateas.Carlucci, and Justin Cassin.
A focus on swim and athleisure will continue with dedicated group shows:
- Active Collective Showcase: taking place on 16 May 2017 at 3pm, Active Collective Showcase will feature designers including: HUNTRLND, L’Urv, NIMBLE, Seafolly, Tone Fitness and Tully Lou.
- SWIM: Returning this year on 17 May 2017 at 11am, SWIM will showcase designers including: duskii, Aqua Blu, Kopper & Zink, She Made Me, Skye & Staghorn and Tacoola.
A series of thought leadership seminars focused on the fashion industry will take place19 May 2017, featuring keynote speakers and informative content curated by leaders including Ragtrader Live, Clean Cut Fashion Association and WGSN.
