Christmas Proms 2018

By Tony Polese · On November 26, 2018

Christmas Proms 2018 – A Heart-Warming Christmas Concert Like No Other

It’s the most wonderful time of the year as Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Guy Noble, joins Adelaide’s beloved Christmas Proms at Festival Theatre from 14 – 16 December.

Feel the spirit of Christmas as musical magic comes alive in song and dance with performances by musical theatre star Lucy Durack (Wicked, Wizard of Oz) and Tap Pack members Jan Di Pietro (The Producers, Boy from Oz) and Sean Mulligan (Jersey Boys, Tap Pack).

A joyous family experience for all ages, the much-loved concert series, directed by Christopher Horsey, will feature popular Christmas songs and traditional carols, and of course a special appearance from Father Christmas.

Enjoy seasonal orchestral and sing-along favourites including excerpts from Tchaikovsky, Strauss and Bizet performed by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.

Audiences will also be treated to a dance extravaganza featuring tap masters Jan Di Pietro and Sean Mulligan from The Tap Pack. Adelaide’s impressive dance talent will also be on display with students from Norwood’s Barbara Jayne Dance Centre performingThe Nutcracker Suite. Rising ballet star, 10-year-old Mietta Brookman, is set to wow audiences, joining Father Christmas on stage for a special performance.

Christmas-lovers can choose from four performances, including a special Something on Saturday edition of Christmas Proms for young families on Saturday 15 December featuring a pre-show performance by the On Stage Choir and Christmas craft activities in the Festival Theatre foyer from 12.45pm.

Attendees can spread the festive cheer with an optional monetary donation benefiting the Adelaide Festival Centre Foundation, which plays an integral role in providing access to the arts for children and schools with disadvantage. Donations can be made via Festival Theatre foyer displays at each performance.

GUY NOBLE

Internationally renowned conductor and presenter Guy Noble will join the ASO on stage at Christmas Proms. Guy has conducted the Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Western Australian, Tasmanian, Queensland and Canberra Symphony Orchestras, the Auckland Philharmonia, Hong Kong Symphony and Malaysian and Bergen Philharmonic orchestras. He has worked with a wide variety of international performers with orchestras across Australia, including Harry Connick Jnr, Ben Folds, The Beach Boys, Olivia Newton John, Paloma Faith and Meow Meow.

LUCY DURACK

Originally hailing from Perth, Lucy Durack graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts with a Bachelor of Arts (Music Theatre). Lucy’s stage credits include the roles of Glinda the Good Witch in both the original Australian cast of Wickedand the recently successful tour of Wizard of Oz, and as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde The Musical for which she won a Helpmann and Sydney Theatre Award. On screen Lucy has appeared in Sisters, Here Come The Habibs and All Saints. Lucy’s radio show My Soundtrack has been the ABC’s most downloaded radio show for the past five summers.
