The Australian-exclusive exhibition Andy Warhol and Photography: A Social Media will open at AGSA with a special appearance by Andy Warhol’s close friend and collaborator, American photographer Christopher Makos. The first exhibition in Australia to explore Warhol’s career-long obsession with photography, Andy Warhol and Photography showcases more than 250 photographs, screenprints, polaroids and experimental films including Warhol’s iconic screenprints of Elvis, Marilyn Monroe and Campbell’s soup cans, as well as photos never-before-seen in Australia of Warhol’s friends and associates including Bob Dylan, Debbie Harry, Mick Jagger, John Lennon and Liza Minnelli.
Makos will join exhibition curator Julie Robinson in conversation at this exclusive media preview. Speaking about his decade-long friendship with Warhol and his own career as a photographer, Makos will reminisce about his time as part of Warhol’s inner circle, socialising with celebrities at Studio 54 and Warhol’s studio.
