Second Wedding Singer
Magic Mirrors Spiegeltent
Words by Pearl Tizzie
As you enter the Magic Mirrors Spiegeltent you aren’t sure if you have entered a cabaret show, or the wedding of your aunt Betty. The second wedding.
Simon Hall (one third of Tripod), and the Brass Ring (locals Marion City Band) enter the room as a wedding party would from the back of the room.
The bride and groom are plucked from the audience and serenaded by a menagerie of large brass instruments.
The show continues with stories of love, lost juice, and break ups, but not in the usual way, but by way of song. Perfectly executed by Simon’s impressive vocal stamina and a choir of brass and percussion impeccably arranged.
Simon, dressed in his sparkly snake skin suit jacket ensures guests are aware of wedding housekeeping throughout the show, and that Simon and the Brass Ring are available for Second Weddings, and Funerals.
The show peaks at the soon to be hit song, ‘You Don’t Know This Won’t Work’ before the Bridge and Groom are engulfed in a vocal procession that leaves this room (presumable for the hotel one).
The show is in classic cabaret style with musical acts interspersed with Simon’s funny anecdotes of love, family, and weddings.
