A star is Torn is a comedic theatre show based on the trial and tribulations of former star Matt Francis (Greg Fleet) and new up an coming stand up Amali (Khu Harale) who meet and strike up a friendship in the most unusual way, after Matt heckled her at a comedy show.
A star is Torn, goes from interactions between Matt and Amali to stand up routines which are a major part of the show (audience members are encourged to treat it like a comedy night in these scenes). Most interactions in the show are between Matt and Amali and both characters with Matt’s long suffering agent, who has to make the tough calls.
This show vears into what happened in the life of Matt and how it spiralled out of control, much like the career of Fleet.
A star is Torn showcases the talent of Harale as a comic and as an excellent performer on stage, however Fleets performance fell flat as he seemed unprepared, lacked the stage presence and would sometimes switch between his character Matt & Greg Fleet- the comic.
This show has an extended Fringe run from the 14th of Feb until the 19th of March at Holden Street Theatre.
A Star is Torn, needs work, but has the potential to be a spectacular production.
