“People told me you can’t go there by yourself, you’re a woman”
Those are the words Jacinda Patty was sick of hearing. Despite it being 2019 and there being more female solo travellers than ever before (75% in 2018 according to solotravelerworld.com) women are still being told not to venture too far, alone. The message is that the world is unsafe for female solo-travellers. So this young millennial decided to show them exactly what she could do, solo.
So she packed her bags for a two-year voyage that encompassed 48 different countries. In the process gaining more confidence in her own skin and learnt to fully embrace the world in all it has to offer good and shithouse.
Safety Banana is a one woman show performed and produced by quadruple threat Jacinda Patty – that’s circus, singing, acting and dancing. It was created from the realisation that society is placing women on the shelf and giving us a use by date. In a world where stability is often traded for adventure, “I want it all” is the unapologetic message in this show.
At its core it is a story of a solo female traveler backpacking around the world, and her tales of finding and losing love. Come along and be immersed in a playful, powerful and hilarious world where being confident, single and yourself is ok.
Jacinda’s desire to produce originated from her expertise and experience of a fusion of art forms including dance, theatre, music and circus. Her premier show Boxed In Sideways launched at the 2018 award winning venue The Melba Hub.
