10 Days Without Momma
Lavazza Italian Film Festival
Palace Nova Eastend
Carlo (Fabio De Luigi) is one of those old school fathers, oblivious to the running of the household or how difficult it is to be a fulltime parent. His wife Giuila (Valentina Lodovini) after making the decision to leave her job as a lawyer has been holding the fort keeping the family together and bringing up their three children. Finally deciding enough is enough Giulia decide to go away on a holiday to Cuba with her sister leaving all the responsibilities to Carlo who has been at most an absent father since the kids were born. He seems to think that after Giulia drops the kids to school, she has a life of relaxation and endless time to have coffee with her friends.
10 Days Without Momma may sound like a typical Mr Mom kind of storyline but what makes this film differ is the stellar performance by the cast. De Luigi plays the absent and clueless father convincingly where his comedic timing is flawless. Forget about political correctness, this film goes to places where you gasp with shock then follow it with a roar of laughter. From one crazy event after another Carlo somehow finds himself resolving these situations with hysterical results.
Whether having his teeth knocked out, dealing with his daughter getting her period for the first time or bringing his youngest child to work it was never going to be anything but chaos. This film will have you in stitches. You can’t help but laugh at the misfortunes no matter how outrageous. The funniest film I’ve seen in ages!
