Registrations are now open for the 2019 South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival and will close on Monday May 13, 5pm.
A key event on the South Australian arts calendar, SALA will celebrate its 22nd year and run from August 1 – 31. Australia’s largest open access visual arts festival SALA showcases South Australia’s diverse and dynamic living artists.

From first timers to well-known established artists SALA provides a platform for creatives from various mediums to exhibit their work. From painting to sculpture, video to performance, photography and multimedia SALA is inclusive and encompasses creatives from across the state.
Last year’s festival attracted a record-breaking 9000 artists taking part in 700 exhibitions across Adelaide and regional SA.
In her first year at the helm SALA Festival CEO Kate Moskwa said the festival offers a unique opportunity for new and more established artists to exhibit their works in this month-long festival.
“SALA is a wonderfully inclusive festival and has seen extraordinary growth over the years. We encourage any artists and venues who might be interested in taking part this year to get in contact to find out how you can participate.
“Anywhere can be a SALA venue, including schools, community spaces, office foyers and home studios.
“Some of the more unique venues looking for artists include the Adina Treasury Tunnels, the Ayres House Museum, and the Living Kaurna Cultural Centre plus plenty of cafes, wineries, hotels and libraries.”
Registered artists are also eligible to enter the 2019 SALA Awards which includes The Advertiser Contemporary Art Prize valued at $5000, the Unitcare Services Moving Image Award for artists working in moving image/new media, valued at $5000, the City Rural Emerging Artist Award for those with less than five years professional experience, valued at $2500, the Don Dunstan Foundation Award for artists whose work explores social justice themes, valued at $2500, the City of Unley Active Ageing Award for those over the age of 60, valued at $2000, and many more. This year we have also announced the inaugural City of Onkaparinga Contemporary Curator Award which is open to emerging and established curators with a cash prize and a supported exhibition at Sauerbier House for SALA 2020.

Exhibition registrations are open to artists of all experience levels, with the only requirement being they must be a current resident of South Australia. Registering is quick and easy with SALA’s online form at salafestival.com
Registrations close 13 May and we suggest registering sooner rather than later to allow for any questions that might come up during this process – especially for first-timers.
